Welcome to the Morae Classical Schools Page
My name is Chris Wright and I'm the Executive Director for the schools. I'm so pleased you are taking the time to stop by and get more information about our school. Morae Classical started in concept almost ten years ago from a couple of military families discussing their frustration and struggles of finding schools for their children. Due to the recent advances in virtual education and the movement for parent involvement in curriculum, the time is finally here to develop this school. I genuinely desire to build a micro school that allows parents to have 100% access to the curriculum, to the teaching methods, and the ability to see the teachers in their classrooms.
Military families need stability, and if I can create a school where a student has the same virtual teachers, the same curriculum, and learns at the same pace no matter where they move in the country, then we are alleviating stress. As a military kid, a military member, and a father to three sons, I know firsthand the critical need which is out there. I pray we create a place where we can develop a love for good character, values, virtues, academics, the arts, athletics, and ultimately for the true, good, and beautiful.
Thank you for taking the time to look at our school, and I hope to have a school up and running in your area soon!
THE HISTORY OF MORAE CLASSICAL SCHOOLS
Morae Classical Schools came about from the development of multiple events. Here's a quick timeline:
2011 - Major Wright led a military school through a large curriculum change. One of the proposed changes was to move the school to online only. The key criticism of the online movement was the dependence on using PowerPoint slides and web-based learning. Although virtual education was not approved, there were key principles established.
2016 - Five years later, Lt Col Wright designed and established another military school. The senior program within the school utilized an early version of the hybrid learning approach (online and in-person). This program successfully reduced learning from six weeks to three weeks, but the learning still had some flaws.
2020 - Mr. Wright worked at a classical charter school who looked at starting a virtual academy. Due to the overwhelming focus on COVID and concerns of not being able to replicate the academy, the idea was not utilized. Although it was not implemented, the idea continued to fail forward.
2021 - As an Executive Director, Mr. Wright conducted a research study to see if a virtual school would be possible for a classical charter school. The idea was set and ready to go, however, the state would not grant charter schools the ability to have virtual academies.
2022 - Morae Classical Schools was officially incorporated and will receive its 501(c)(3) status sometime in February or March, 2022.
